Son of George and Annie Lowe of 42, Martin Street, Crewe. Former pupil of the
Borough Senior School and previously worked in the Fitting Shop, Crewe Works
and the Cammell Laird’s ship building yard at Birkenhead. Served with the Naval
Brigade during the defence of Antwerp. The Viknor was a unit of the 10th
Cruiser Squadron and consisted of 22 officers and 273 ratings. It was lost
when it hit a mine off Tory Island in extremely bad weather. Many bodies
and wreckage were washed ashore along the north coast of Ireland.
