His mother, Mrs Dunbavin, lived at the Weston Point Post Office near to the Salt Works in Runcorn.
Thomas was wounded in the head, and a number of his colleagues wrote to his family after his death.
Private Richard Crew wrote stating he was with Thomas when he was shot, and caught him as he fell. He then took him to the doctor, who tended to his wounds but he sadly passed away. He mentions the food parcel Tom had received, and how he had helped him eat the egg pie and cake.
