Charles Boden Edwards was the third son of the Late Capt Robert Edwards and Sarah Ann Edwards. He had been at sea for about 23 years. His two other brothers were also at sea during word war 1, Peter and Joseph, they both appear to have survived the war.
Although CWGC gives his rank as Master, the local newspaper gives his rank as Captain.
He was on board the SS Exchange when it was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine. Two other Runcorn men were on the boat with him, Able Seaman S.N Bennet and able Seaman A Haddock.
